The Portal Experience – Lawyer vs. Client View

This article explains what attorneys control and what clients see inside the portal.

Lawyer View (Inside Prima.Law)

From the Case Page, you control:

  • Checklist items
  • File uploads
  • USCIS receipts
  • Forms sharing
  • Notes sharing
  • Smart Interviews
  • Invoices (if enabled)

All portal content originates from the Case Page.

Client View (Inside the Portal)

Once logged in, the client sees:

Case Selector

If multiple cases are shared, a dropdown at the top allows switching between cases.

1. Checklist

Clients can:

  • View required supporting documents.
  • Upload files to checklist items.
  • Download files you upload.
  • See which items are complete (crossed off).

Best practice:

  • When you review a document and approve it, click the circle to mark it complete.
  • This syncs instantly with the client portal.
  • Completed items are crossed off, reducing confusion.

2. USCIS Tab

If you’ve added receipts in the case:

  • Clients can see receipt numbers.
  • They can view latest status updates.
  • They can use the receipt number to check USCIS status independently.

This reduces repetitive status inquiries.

3. Files Tab

If you upload files under the Files tab and click Share, clients can:

  • Preview
  • Download
  • Review documents

Files uploaded directly to checklist items are automatically visible in the checklist section.

4. Forms (Optional Sharing)

You can share forms from the Forms tab by clicking Share.

You control:

  • View-only access
  • Editable access

Recommendation:

  • Avoid giving editing permissions.
  • Use Smart Interviews for structured data intake.
  • Use shared forms primarily for review and confirmation.

5. Billing (If PrimaPay+ Enabled)

If PrimaPay+ is active:

  • Clients can view invoices.
  • Pay invoices.
  • Manage payment plans.

If PrimaPay+ is not enabled:

  • Clients can view invoices.
  • They cannot process payments.

6. Notes (Optional Sharing)

You can share notes from the Case Page:

  1. Open a note.
  2. Check the Share in Client Portal box.

Important:

  • Notes are informational only.
  • There is no back-and-forth messaging inside the portal.

7. Portal Settings

Clients can:

  • Change password
  • Change language
  • Log out

Your firm logo appears throughout the portal.
