How to Correctly Select Relationships When Creating Related Contacts

When creating a related contact from within an existing contact record, always select the relationship based on how the new contact relates to the current contact, not the other way around.

You can relate contacts only from the Contact Page.

If you are inside a client’s contact profile and you are adding their parent as a related contact, the relationship should be selected as Father or Mother. The relationship must reflect the role of the new contact in relation to the profile you are currently viewing.

A common mistake is selecting the relationship from the perspective of the person being added. For example, choosing “Daughter” while adding a parent from a client’s profile. This causes the system to interpret the newly created contact as the client’s child instead of their parent, which can lead to incorrect family structures, duplicate family member entries in forms, and autofill inconsistencies.

To avoid this:

  • Start from the main contact’s profile.
  • Click to create a related contact.
  • Select the relationship that describes who the new contact is to the main contact.
  • Save the contact before proceeding to form assignments.

Selecting the correct relationship ensures proper family mapping, cleaner autofill behavior, and prevents duplicate or conflicting entries within immigration forms.
